Overview
What it is.
Kraft paper is the unbleached or semi-bleached paper made by the kraft process, which preserves more of the original wood fiber than mechanical pulping. The result is a strong, durable sheet with a long fiber network and high tear resistance — properties that make it ideal for custom packaging where structural integrity matters as much as print fidelity.\n\nWe stock kraft in natural brown, bleached white, and dyed black. It runs through every print process in our facility — offset, digital, flexo, and screen — and accepts every finish in our catalog including foil stamping, embossing, and spot UV. It is the substrate we recommend by default for any brand looking to lead with sustainability claims.
When to choose kraft
Kraft is the right choice when sustainability is a brand pillar, when you want the unbleached aesthetic to carry the design, and when the product inside is not heavy enough to demand a coated or laminated stock. It pairs especially well with single-color print — a black or white logo on natural brown kraft is a perennial bestseller — and with minimalist line art.
Avoid kraft when you need high-fidelity full-color photography reproduction, when the design relies on bright white as a base, or when the product is heavy enough to require coated board for structural reasons. For those cases, coated paper or art paper is the better substrate.
Sustainability and compliance
Our kraft is FSC-certified on request, with full chain-of-custody documentation. The unbleached variants require no chlorine bleach, and the bleached variants use an elemental chlorine-free (ECF) process. We can ship a material certificate, country of origin, and recycled content percentage with every order on request.
Kraft is curbside recyclable in the US, Canada, UK, EU, and Australia. The fiber can be recycled 5–7 times before the network degrades to a point where it must be downcycled.

Frequently asked
Questions about kraft paper.
Is kraft paper food-safe?
Yes — unbleached kraft is FDA-compliant for dry food contact. For wet or fatty foods, we add an inner liner.
What is the difference between kraft and recycled paper?
Kraft is made from virgin fiber using the kraft process; recycled is made from 100% post-consumer waste. Both are recyclable.
Can I print full-color photography on kraft?
It is technically possible but not recommended. The brown base shifts the color cast of every ink. We suggest bleached white for full-color work.
Do you offer unbleached white kraft?
Yes — we stock a semi-bleached variant that maintains the natural fiber look with a softer white tone than fully bleached paper.
What is the strongest kraft weight for a mailer box?
350 gsm is the standard for mailers. For heavier products, we move to 400+ gsm or wrap with E-flute corrugated.
Can kraft be foil stamped?
Yes — kraft takes hot-foil stamping exceptionally well. Gold and copper foil on natural brown is a classic combination.
